Giant pandas Ping Ping and Fu Shuang arrive at Zoo Atlanta
Two giant pandas, a male named Ping Ping and a female named Fu Shuang, have arrived at Zoo Atlanta from China. The pandas, both born in 2020 at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on September 27 via a specialized FedEx Boeing 777.
The transfer is part of a new conservation agreement between Zoo Atlanta and the China Wildlife Conservation Association. This arrival marks the return of giant pandas to the zoo following the departure of previous pandas to China in October 2024. Zoo Atlanta is currently one of only three zoos in the United States hosting giant pandas.
The pandas are currently undergoing a routine quarantine period expected to last approximately one month. During this time, they are not yet visible to the public, though zoo officials report that both animals are eating well and adjusting to their new environment. An announcement regarding public viewing dates will be made at a later time.
