Giant Siamese carp found dead in Prachinburi river

A 100kg Giant Siamese carp, measuring approximately 1.5 meters in length, was found floating in a river in Prachinburi, Thailand, on October 11. Local residents discovered the massive fish, which is one of the world's largest freshwater species, drifting toward the riverbank.

The discovery follows reports of increasing fish mortality in the area. Local official Panitchaya Klampaiboon noted that shrimp and various fish, including those in commercial cages, have been dying over recent days. Authorities suspect the deaths may be linked to water quality issues.

Preliminary theories suggest that rotting crops washed into the river by recent floods may have decomposed, reducing oxygen levels in the water. Environmental agencies have collected water samples to determine if the cause is low oxygen or chemical pollution. The region has been heavily impacted by flooding caused by heavy rains since late September, affecting over 100,000 households in Prachinburi alone.
