Giants beat Cubs 2-1 on Matt Chapman's 10th‑inning single

Matt Chapman delivered a go‑ahead single in the top of the 10th inning, allowing automatic runner Jonah Cox to score and giving the San Francisco Giants a 2‑1 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigray Field. Dylan Smith recorded his first career save by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the 10th.

Chicago starter Jameson Taillon exited early with a left hamstring strain. Reliever Javier Assad, recalled from Triple‑A, pitched six innings of one‑run, one‑hit ball, striking out five. Giants starter Trevor McDonald allowed one run over five innings, while the bullpen, including Keaton Winn, kept the Cubs off the board after the ninth.

The win marked the Giants' fourth triumph in their last five games and extended their series lead against the Cubs.
