Giants of Cabras statues reunited at Marongiu Museum in Sardinia

The 27 ancient stone statues known as the Giants of Cabras have been reunited at the Marongiu Museum in Cabras, Sardinia. These anthropomorphic figures, dating back to the Iron Age between the 11th and 9th centuries BCE, are considered the oldest large-scale stone human figures in the Western Mediterranean.

Found near Oristano at Monte Prama in the 1970s, the statues were originally discovered in a necropolis. Curators suggest the figures may represent the social roles of young men within Nuragic society, though their exact identity remains a subject of study. The reunification follows local efforts to prevent the dispersal of the collection to other cities.

The return of the statues is expected to bolster cultural tourism in the Sinis natural park area. The Monte Prama Foundation reported a 35% increase in museum visitors compared to the previous year, noting significant interest from both international and domestic tourists.
