Giants QB Jaxson Dart penalized after tossing ball at defender Greg Newsome
During the New York Giants' training camp at White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, quarterback Jaxson Dart scored a rushing touchdown in a red‑zone drill and then threw the football at cornerback Greg Newsome II’s helmet as the defender walked back to the huddle. Coach John Harbaugh assessed a 15‑yard taunting penalty, forcing the extra‑point attempt to be retaken from 48 yards.
Dart later said the incident was simply “competitiveness,” adding that the players “iron sharpen iron” in camp. Newsome admitted he was angry at first but said the two later laughed about it, noting, “I was mad… we were laughing at lunch.” Harbaugh used the episode as a coaching point, saying the team discussed the play in a meeting and praised Dart for accepting responsibility.
The penalty turned a routine extra point into a long‑range kick, which kicker Ben Sauls still made, but the focus remained on discipline and team dynamics rather than the outcome of the play.
