Giants training camp: Slayton lauds Harbaugh, eyes Beckham rivalry
Wide receiver Darius Slayton praised new head coach John Harbaugh during the New York Giants’ training camp, saying the former Ravens and Steelers coach brings the “accountability” and direct communication he likened to former Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Slayton noted that every player is expected to be on time, show effort in practice and face consequences for lapses.
Slayton also commented on the Giants’ expanded wide‑receiver group, describing veteran Odell Beckham Jr. as a “fake unicorn, mythical creature” and acknowledging the heightened competition with newcomers such as Calvin Austin III, Darnell Mooney, Braxton Berrios, JuJu Smith‑Schuster and rookie Malachi Fields. He said the talent in the room raises the competitive standard and that Beckham’s experience will be a key factor as the roster is trimmed.
