Giardini Naxos: Man arrested for attempted arson and resisting officers

A 27-year-old man of Gambian origin has been arrested in Giardini Naxos, Sicily, following an attempted arson that threatened a residential building. Authorities responded to emergency calls reporting an agitated individual threatening to set fire to his apartment complex.

Upon arrival, Carabinieri and firefighters discovered a pile of wood soaked in gasoline placed outside the man's ground-floor residence, positioned next to an active stove. The suspect was later located at a nearby service station while attempting to fill a bottle with gasoline. During his apprehension, the man, who remained in an altered state, resisted and attacked the officers, necessitating his immobilization. He has been transferred to the Messina Gazzi prison and faces charges of attempted arson and resistance to a public official.
