Giarre: WWF raises concerns over pine tree removal

The WWF Sicilia Nord Orientale has raised questions regarding the local administration's decision to cut down pine trees located between Via Emilia and Via Gramsci in Giarre. The organization expressed concerns over the general state of neglect regarding green spaces in the town, citing examples such as Jungo Park and Piazza S. Francesco.

While acknowledging that tree removal is permissible if trees pose a safety risk due to instability or root damage to infrastructure, the WWF emphasized the need for a balanced approach. They argued that for every tree removed for safety reasons, the administration should aim to plant more to ensure a net positive impact on the urban forest and protect the environment for future generations.
