Gibara, Cuba: Investigation into fatal attack on Yudiley Rodríguez

The Alas Tensas Gender Observatory (OGAT) has reported the killing of 37-year-old Yudiley Rodríguez in the Margodo neighborhood of Gibara, Holguín. The incident occurred on October 20, 2026, at the victim's residence.

According to family testimonies and OGAT, the alleged aggressor is a neighbor identified as Iram García. The observatory has classified the incident as a ‘social feminicide’ because the attacker was neither a partner nor a relative of the victim. Reports indicate that García had previously harassed the victim's daughter-in-law, leading to his repeated expulsion from the home.

Two young children, including Rodríguez’s four-year-old daughter, were present during the attack. The victim’s father was also injured but is reported to be out of danger. OGAT noted that rural areas face heightened vulnerability due to isolation, economic dependence, and limited communication during power outages. As of October 21, 2026, the observatory has recorded 58 feminicides in Cuba.
