Gibraltar government issues guide for Spanish firms to register for legal work

The Gibraltar government has released a bilingual (English‑Spanish) guide explaining how Spanish companies must register, pay corporation tax, contribute to PAYE and social security in order to provide services legally on the Rock. The guide follows several days of border uncertainty during which firms that had operated for years were suddenly blocked from accessing employees and continuing their activities. Gibraltar officials note that the UK‑EU treaty on Gibraltar does not guarantee free movement of services, so firms must comply with Gibraltar legislation; the registration and licensing requirements existed before but were previously enforced less strictly.

In a related move, Gibraltar officials met with Chamber of Commerce president John Ísola and senior officials, including the Attorney General, the chief customs officer and the director of the Gibraltar House in Brussels, to discuss the ongoing application of the treaty. The meeting covered practical issues raised by businesses, customs procedures, information sharing with the private sector and longer‑term traffic management, reaffirming the government’s commitment to dialogue with the business community.
