Gibraltar Implements EU Treaty, Removes Border Checks

The Government of Gibraltar thanked civil servants for their extensive work preparing and implementing the new treaty with the European Union, which ends immigration controls on the land border with La Línea, Spain. The administration highlighted the creation of new systems, procedural adjustments, infrastructure projects and inter‑agency coordination undertaken largely behind the scenes, often involving long hours and added responsibilities.

Chief Minister Fabián Picardo emphasized that the historic shift will inevitably face practical challenges in its early days, urging patience, professionalism and continued problem‑solving as procedures are refined and systems stabilised. He said the success of the treaty reflects the dedication of thousands of public employees and expressed deep appreciation for their efforts.
