Gibraltar restores border traffic and reopens hiking trail after early work completion

Gibraltar announced that road works on the Gibraltar side of the frontier were finished ahead of schedule, allowing normal traffic flow to resume. The night diversion through the Eastgate commercial gate, set to remain until 1 July, was lifted on the night of Saturday 27 June after confirmation from Spanish police that vehicles could again use the regular entry and exit lanes 24 hours a day. Chief Minister Fabian Picardo thanked commuters, cross‑border workers and the technical teams for their patience and cooperation.

The popular Los Escalones del Mediterráneo walking route also reopened on Friday 26 June following safety works by the Natural Reserve staff. After a rock‑fall in May forced a month‑long closure, the trail was cleared of debris, a temporary protective fence installed and the area deemed safe for visitors. Permanent repairs to the retaining wall will begin soon, and hikers are urged to follow signage and any temporary restrictions.
