Gibraltar to introduce paid parking at Western Beach

The Government of Gibraltar has announced plans to introduce a regulated pay-and-display parking system at Western Beach, scheduled for implementation in 2027. Transport Minister John Cortés confirmed the measure in Parliament, noting that the system will distinguish between vehicles based on their registration plates.

Under the proposed plan, vehicles with local Gibraltar registration plates will be exempt from fees. However, all other vehicles, including those with Spanish license plates from nearby areas such as La Línea, will be required to pay for parking.

Specific details regarding the cost of parking, applicable hours, and the total number of regulated spaces have not yet been disclosed. This move follows a pattern of differentiated pricing for residents and visitors in Gibraltar, similar to existing policies for the Bathing Pavilion, the Rock Nature Reserve, and the sustainable tourism tax.
