Gibran Rakabuming Raka faces Constitutional Court challenge over 2024 candidacy
Denny Indrayana and several other petitioners have filed a lawsuit with the Constitutional Court challenging the 2024 presidential election candidacy of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The petition alleges that Gibran failed to meet the educational requirements stipulated in the 2017 Election Law. The legal challenge seeks to disqualify Gibran from the 2024 election, cancel his appointment as Vice President, and nullify his inauguration, requesting that the legislature convene to select a replacement according to the constitution.
In response, the Aliansi Gerakan Indonesia Berani (Gibran) has raised concerns regarding the timing and intent of the lawsuit, noting that it comes nearly two years after the election results were finalized and the Prabowo Subianto-Gibran administration began its term. Reyhan Restuansyah, chairman of the alliance, suggested the legal action might be an attempt at impeachment or a move to disrupt the current government's economic development efforts. He maintained that the 2024 election results are constitutionally valid and have already undergone official processing by the General Elections Commission (KPU).
