Gibran Rakabuming Raka: Constitutional Court rules on education dispute
The Indonesian Constitutional Court (MK) has issued a final ruling regarding the educational credentials of Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Judges clarified that the 'certificate of attendance' used as a basis for his educational equivalence documents only serves as proof of lecture attendance and does not explicitly confirm the successful completion of a specific educational level. This finding has sparked significant political debate. PDIP officials suggested that if Gibran does not resign in light of these findings, the House of Representatives (DPR) could initiate impeachment proceedings.
In response, Gibran Rakabuming Raka stated he respects the legal process and remains focused on his duties, arguing that his completion of a bachelor's degree in Singapore implies he must have completed high school. Meanwhile, the KPU Surakarta has defended its 2020 verification process, stating it followed all standard procedures through the relevant ministries. Additionally, legal advocacy groups have reported the matter to Bareskrim Polri, alleging the use of forged documents for his candidacy.
