Gibran Rakabuming Raka education controversy triggers legal complaints
The Constitutional Court (MK) has ruled that it found no convincing evidence that Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka possesses a high school diploma or equivalent from abroad. While the court did not accept the lawsuit regarding his presidential election registration due to a lack of legal standing, its findings regarding his educational credentials have sparked significant political and legal reactions.
The Election Organ Ethics Council (DKPP) has received two formal complaints regarding the ruling. These complaints target the leadership of the General Elections Commission (KPU) and the Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu), alleging violations of election organizer ethics. The complaints were submitted by the Indonesian Law Student Association (Permahi) and the Dewi Keadilan Foundation.
Political parties are responding in various ways: the Democratic Party is conducting internal consolidation, the National Mandate Party (PAN) is reviewing the decision, and the National Awakening Party (PKB) is studying the full court ruling. Meanwhile, civil society groups are urging the PKB to initiate a right of inquiry (hak angket) to further investigate the matter.
