Gideon Kutz, veteran Israeli journalist, dies in Paris at 78

Gideon Kutz, a prominent Israeli journalist and professor, has died in Paris at the age of 78. Kutz had a career spanning nearly four decades, serving as a key correspondent for Voice of Israel (Kol Israel) and later for the public corporation Kan.

Born in Lodz, Poland, and emigrating to Israel in 1957, Kutz settled in Paris in 1978, where he earned a doctorate in communication from Sorbonne University. He became a vital link between Israel and Europe, covering major historical events including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Yugoslav Wars, the Oslo peace process, the Arab Spring, and the war in Ukraine.

Beyond news reporting, Kutz was an academic, serving as a professor of communication and culture at Paris 8 University. He also contributed to the study of Hebrew and Jewish press history in Europe as the editor of the journal ‘Kesher’.
