Gideon Mensah joins FC Köln on free transfer

Ghanaian international left-back Gideon Mensah has joined the German Bundesliga club FC Köln on a free transfer. The move follows the expiration of his contract with the French side AJ Auxerre at the end of the 2025/26 season.

Mensah, who has experience playing for Ghana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, noted that negotiations with Köln began prior to the tournament. He stated that the decision-making process was straightforward, as he already knew his destination while competing in the World Cup.

Preparing for his Bundesliga campaign, Mensah emphasized the importance of professional consistency, stating, “I know that every weekend, every week, every game that we play, I can't take it for granted.” He has already made his competitive debut for the club, starting in a 2-1 DFB Pokal victory against Wurzburger Kickers.
