Giffoni Valle Piana bus inspections cause commuter and student delays

Labor unions and transport organizations are calling for urgent meetings following disruptions to school and commuter bus services in Giffoni Valle Piana. The issues arose after the local Municipal Police conducted inspections on SITA Sud buses, checking vehicle documentation, driver credentials, and passenger capacity.

Reports indicate that during these checks, passengers—including students—were forced to disembark when buses were deemed overcrowded. This resulted in significant delays and students arriving late to school. While unions such as FILT-CGIL, FIT-CISL, and Ugl Autoferrotranvieri expressed support for safety inspections, they criticized the methods used.

Union representatives noted that under the Highway Code, the legality of standing passengers depends on the specific vehicle's authorization and capacity limits. They are requesting a meeting with the Municipality, the Municipal Police, and SITA Sud to review technical documentation, establish shared procedures that protect both safety and the right to mobility, and evaluate whether service frequency needs to be increased to meet demand.
