Gift Monday transfers from Washington Spirit to Boston Legacy

Nigerian forward Gift Monday has officially bid farewell to the Washington Spirit following her permanent transfer to Boston Legacy. The 24-year-old striker moved to the new National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club in a deal reportedly valued at $500,000, which includes a 20 per cent sell-on clause for Washington Spirit.

Monday expressed her gratitude to the Washington Spirit via social media, stating, “Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when the memories mean so much. I’m leaving with a grateful heart, beautiful memories, and a little sadness that words cannot explain.”

During her tenure with the Washington Spirit, which began after her move from Spanish club UD Tenerife, Monday recorded 12 goals and three assists in 48 appearances. She also established an NWSL record by scoring the fastest hat-trick in league history during a match against the Houston Dash, finding the net three times in 35 minutes and 52 seconds.
