Giga Kick eyes Everest upset at Randwick

Trainer Clayton Douglas is eyeing a potential upset in the $20 million Everest at Randwick with veteran sprinter Giga Kick. The seven-year-old, who won the race in 2022 and placed in 2023, is making his third attempt at the 1200m event.

Douglas noted that while Giga Kick faces stiff competition from ‘generational’ talent Ka Ying Rising and the mare Tempted, the horse possesses a strong historical record in this specific race. Douglas suggested that a heavy track could provide an advantage, as Giga Kick is considered a wet-track specialist. The trainer also mentioned that the use of blinkers might provide a necessary edge for the veteran in the twilight of his career.
