Gigabyte launches B550 motherboards with Wi‑Fi 7
Gigabyte announced a new series of B550 motherboards for the AM4 platform, including a Micro‑ATX model (B550M X AORUS ELITE WIFI7) and plans for ATX variants. The boards feature Wi‑Fi 7 with 160 MHz channels, 2.5 Gb Ethernet, Bluetooth 5.4, four DDR4 slots, a PCIe 4.0 x16 slot, and dual M.2 slots (one PCIe 4.0 x4, one PCIe 3.0). Power delivery is described as a 10‑phase 60‑A DrMOS design (8+2 split). Gigabyte markets the series as “The Ultimate AM4 Performance Redux,” positioning it as a cost‑effective alternative for users who want to avoid the premium of DDR5 memory, noting that DDR4 kits remain substantially cheaper than comparable DDR5 kits. The boards support Ryzen 3000, 4000 and 5000 series CPUs, including the high‑performance Ryzen 7 5800X3D. Analysts highlight that pairing the six‑year‑old B550 chipset with modern Wi‑Fi 7 offers a blend of legacy platform affordability and contemporary networking speeds, though enterprise adopters may need to validate compatibility due to PCIe lane constraints.
