Gigi Becali reveals 15 million euro donation to Mount Athos

FCSB owner Gigi Becali has revealed that he has donated approximately 15 million euros to Mount Athos over the years. He specifically noted a significant instance where he distributed 3 million dollars in cash to Romanian monasteries on the mountain.

Becali stated the motivation behind these large donations was to support Romanian monks and ensure they were not “subjugated by Greeks,” following reports that Romanian monks were working for low wages under Greek counterparts. He mentioned that he has also funded the training of new monks to strengthen the Romanian presence.

In addition to his religious activities, Becali has addressed recent challenges within his football club, FCSB. Following a loss to CFR Cluj, he expressed dissatisfaction with the team's tactical setup and criticized the performance of certain players, specifically Aymen Boutoutaou. Consequently, Becali announced he would take direct control over future player transfers, restricting the authority previously held by Mihai Stoica.
