Gigi Becali dismantles Techirghiol church following environmental dispute

Businessman Gigi Becali has announced the dismantling of a wooden church located near Lake Techirghiol following pressure from environmental authorities and the opening of a criminal case. Becali stated that the structure was dismantled piece by piece and will be relocated to a different site where construction restrictions do not apply.

The controversy arose after the Romanian Ornithological Society reported the construction in a protected area. Becali criticized Minister of Environment Diana Buzoianu, arguing that strict environmental regulations prevent him from working on his own property. He claimed the wooden structure was built on logs to avoid impacting the terrain and does not pose an environmental threat.

While the church is being moved, a cross will remain at the original site, where Father Nectarie will continue to provide oversight and perform blessings.
