Busto Arsizio mourns former mayor Gigi Farioli

The city of Busto Arsizio held a large funeral service at the Basilica of San Giovanni to honor Gigi Farioli, who served as mayor from 2006 to 2016. Farioli passed away at the age of 70 following a long illness.

The ceremony saw significant participation from both citizens and political figures, including Lombardy Region President Attilio Fontana and former Milan Mayor Letizia Moratti. Mourners described Farioli as a dedicated public servant and a central figure in regional politics who possessed a deep connection to his community.

During the service, Monsignor Severino Pagani characterized Farioli as a man of faith and a liberal who viewed politics as a spirit of service rather than a pursuit of power. Current Mayor Emanuele Antonelli also paid tribute, noting that Farioli had become a symbol of the city.
