Gijón and Elche open summer festivals with footballers' speeches

Journalist Antón Meana delivered the opening speech for Gijón's Semana Grande, praising the city's plural, inclusive spirit and referencing local football culture, including the upcoming promotion to Primera División. He highlighted community traditions such as the night of fireworks and the shared joy of the city's residents.

Josan Ferrández, captain of Elche CF, inaugurated the Fiestas de Elche with a heartfelt address that honored the city's heritage, the devotion to the Virgin, and the role of the local fan base. He linked the celebrations to Elche's historic festivals and expressed pride in representing the community.

Both events marked the start of major summer festivities in their respective Asturian and Valencian cities, featuring prominent football figures as ceremonial speakers.
