Gijón City Council proposes 10 million euro budget adjustment

The Gijón City Council is proposing budget modifications totaling nearly 10 million euros for the 2026 fiscal year. The majority of these funds, approximately 8.2 million euros, are designated for the early amortization of loans.

This financial strategy aims to improve municipal sustainability by reducing interest expenses. The remaining funds from the proposed adjustments will support various local projects, including works at the Hogar de Ceares and the new proximity center in Nuevo Roces, as well as support for Divertia.

Additionally, adjustments to the accounts of the Municipal Social Services Foundation and the Sports Board, totaling over 865,000 euros, are moving toward approval. The council noted that while surplus funds could be used for other sustainable investments, prioritizing debt repayment is considered a more prudent and efficient approach to managing the current 73.5 million euro investment budget.
