Gijón hosts International Piano Festival street marathon

The International Piano Festival recently held a musical marathon at the Kiosco de la Música in Paseo de Begoña, Gijón, bringing classical music directly to the streets.

Musicians performed a variety of Baroque, classical, and romantic pieces in an open-air setting, facing the technical challenges of urban noise and distractions. Pianist Dana Peláez, a recent conservatory graduate, noted the difficulty of maintaining concentration compared to a traditional silent auditorium, though she expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to reach a broader audience.

Local attendees described the event as a unique privilege for the city, noting the relaxing atmosphere created by the performances amidst the daily bustle of the city center.
