Gijón International Film Festival reveals first films for 2026 edition

The Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) has announced the first selection of films for its 64th edition, scheduled to take place from November 13 to 21, 2026. The initial announcement includes nine feature films competing in international sections, all of which will be making their Spanish premieres.

Key highlights of the Albar International Competition include the return of South Korean director Hong Sang-soo with ‘Nowhere to Lay My Eyes’, a film that recently received awards at the Locarno Film Festival. Also competing are Clio Barnard’s ‘I See Buildings Fall Like Lightning’, which won the Audience Award at the Cannes Film Festival, and Angela Schanelec’s ‘My Wife Cries’.

The festival will also feature two monographic focuses on contemporary animation, highlighting Portuguese filmmakers Alexandra Ramires and Laura Gonçalves, as well as director Elena Walf. Festival director Alejandro Díaz noted that the event has seen a higher-than-usual volume of film submissions from producers and film schools.
