Gikambura Modern Market in Kiambu County nears completion

Construction of the Gikambura Modern Market in Kiambu County is nearing completion, with only minor internal and external finishing works remaining. The project, which began in May 2024, is intended to support local economic growth and provide a dignified trading environment for small-scale entrepreneurs.

Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo stated that the facility will accommodate over 340 traders through 100 shops and 208 stalls. Beyond retail space, the market is equipped with various amenities, including a social hall, meeting rooms, an ICT hub, a food court, a cold room, a butchery, and a crèche. It also features a children’s play area and ample parking.

The market is expected to strengthen agro-based commerce and value addition in the region, which is known for dairy and crop production. The State Department for Internal Security and National Administration has been facilitating the project's implementation to ensure security and inter-agency collaboration.
