Gil Durán warns of Silicon Valley billionaires' push for corporate rule

In his upcoming book, “The Nerd Reich: Silicon Valley Fascism and the War on Democracy,” journalist and former political advisor Gil Durán argues that a networked group of Silicon Valley billionaires and venture capitalists is working to replace democratic governance with a corporate-run authoritarian order.

Scheduled for release on August 18, 2026, via Simon & Schuster, the book identifies figures such as Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Marc Andreessen, and Balaji Srinivasan as central to a movement Durán describes as “tech fascism” or “digital feudalism.” Durán traces the ideological origins of this movement to the 1997 text “The Sovereign Individual” and contends that the push for corporate rule is being accelerated by advancements in artificial intelligence, cryptocurrency, and social media propaganda.
