Gilardoni develops AI and X-ray technology for electronic waste safety
Gilardoni, in collaboration with partners Cefriel and Seval, is developing an advanced X-ray and AI-driven system to improve the management of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The project, supported by the Lombardy Region through the Collabora&Innova grant, aims to enhance the circular economy by automating the identification and tracking of lithium batteries within electronic waste.
This technology is designed to increase plant efficiency by reducing manual sorting and, crucially, to prevent fires caused by the accidental damage or overheating of lithium batteries during the recycling process. Alessandro Fermi, the Regional Assessor for University, Research, and Innovation, recently visited the facility to review the progress of this research and development initiative.
