Gilas Pilipinas to field two separate squads for FIBA and Asian Games
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Tim Cone announced that the national basketball team will field two separate squads for upcoming competitions: the FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers and the 20th Asian Games.
The team for the FIBA window will be managed by Cone, while the Asian Games squad, which will compete in Nagoya, Japan, will be overseen by Richard del Rosario, Jong Uichico, and Justin Brownlee. Due to player availability constraints, the Asian Games roster will consist primarily of an all-PBA contingent alongside Brownlee, as players based in Japan and Korea are ineligible for the event.
Several players, including Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu, Kevin Quiambao, and Carl Tamayo, will not be available for the Asian Games. The roster for the Asian Games is expected to feature many new faces, such as Jerrick Ahanmisi, Justin Arana, and Robert Bolick. Additionally, the availability of naturalized player Bennie Boatwright remains doubtful, and there has been no confirmation regarding the participation of Kai Sotto.
