Gilas Pilipinas Women fall to Canada in FIBA Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament
The Gilas Pilipinas Women's team suffered a significant 85-38 defeat against the world No. 7 ranked Canada during the FIBA Women’s Pre-Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. The loss leaves the Philippines with a 0-2 record in Group B, placing them at risk of elimination following a previous narrow loss to host Mexico.
Canada dominated the matchup through superior size and athleticism, fueled by a roster featuring WNBA and NCAA Division I talent. Canada controlled the rebounding battle 63-22 and converted 23 turnovers into 26 points. Despite the lopsided score, the Philippines showed signs of improvement in the second half, nearly tripling their first-half scoring output.
