Gilberto Gil musical premieres in São Paulo

The musical “Gil – Andar com Fé” is set to premiere on August 20, 2026, at the Teatro Santander in São Paulo. Directed by Miguel Falabella with a script by Newton Moreno, the production explores more than six decades of the career of renowned Brazilian musician Gilberto Gil.

Performed by Gui Ventura, who portrays Gil, the show utilizes a Yoruba concept of time to connect the artist's past, present, and future. The narrative follows his journey from exile in London to his roots in the sertão and the streets of Salvador, highlighting his role in the Tropicália movement and the evolution of the Brazilian music industry.

The production features 48 actors and musicians and includes iconic songs such as “Andar com Fé”, “Aquele Abraço”, “Drão”, and “Vamos Fugir”. The performance aims to celebrate themes of identity, ancestry, and freedom, with accessibility features including audio description and Libras interpretation.
