Gilberto Gil to debut opera‑song “Amor Azul” in Lisbon

Brazilian music legend Gilberto Gil, 84, will appear at Lisbon’s Coliseu dos Recreios on 10 October. The concert marks a departure from his recent “Tempo Rei” tour, featuring the opera‑song “Amor Azul,” a collaboration with Italian maestro Aldo Brizzi. The piece draws inspiration from the Indian epic Gita Govinda, which tells the love story of Krishna and Radha.

Gil stresses the performance as part of a broader cultural bridge between Brazil and Portugal, recalling his first visit to Lisbon in 1969 and the deepening exchange that has linked the two nations over the decades. He says the shared cultural consumption helps reduce intolerance and bring peoples closer together.
