Gilberto Mora attracts European interest amid Liga MX success

Gilberto Mora, the 17-year-old rising star of Xolos de Tijuana, is attracting significant attention in Liga MX and among European clubs. The offensive midfielder has already scored against several of Mexico’s major teams, including Pumas, Cruz Azul, and Chivas. His next objective is to score against Club América during the upcoming Matchday 7 of the Apertura 2026 tournament.

Due to his performance, including appearances with the Mexican national team during the 2026 World Cup, Mora is heavily linked to major European clubs. Reports suggest that Benfica, Borussia Dortmund, and Liverpool have shown interest, while names such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, and PSG have also been associated with the player.

Teammates within Xolos suggest that the Apertura 2026 season may be Mora's last with the club before he potentially moves to Europe upon turning 18 in October. Veteran goalkeeper Guillermo ‘Memo’ Ochoa, who shared a locker room with Mora during the World Cup, has publicly offered support and advice to the young player as he navigates his burgeoning career.
