Gilberto Pichetto Fratin advocates technological neutrality for nuclear energy

Italian Minister of Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, has expressed support for the Nuclear Alliance's approach of technological neutrality. Speaking at a meeting in Luxembourg, he stated that this principle allows member states to utilize their specific energy mixes to pursue decarbonization paths tailored to their national energy systems.

Pichetto Fratin announced that a delegating law regarding sustainable nuclear energy came into force in Italy on October 15. Legislative decrees are currently being prepared to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for the potential development of nuclear energy within the country.

In addition to nuclear energy, the minister emphasized electrification as a primary driver for decarbonization, noting Italy's ongoing investments and experimentation in hydrogen, renewable gases, biofuels, and carbon capture and storage.
