Gilberto Teodoro Jr. open to 2028 presidential bid

Philippine Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. has indicated he is open to a presidential run in 2028, stating that he will not close the door on opportunities presented by the people and God. While currently focused on his role as defense chief, Teodoro noted that he will decide on his future plans in due time.

Teodoro also expressed concerns regarding the continuity of national security policies following the 2028 elections. He warned that a change in administration could lead to a “change in momentum” regarding the Philippines' efforts to protect its interests in the West Philippine Sea. He described the assertion of maritime rights as a “race in resilience” and cautioned that any interruption in current security strategies could waste the gains made by the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
