Gilead Sciences opens new research center in Foster City

Gilead Sciences has opened a new 182,000-square-foot Research Center at its headquarters in Foster City, California. The facility is designed to expand the company’s capabilities in oncology, inflammation, and research data science to accelerate the development of medicines for challenging diseases.

The five-story building will house approximately 325 employees, including 260 laboratory scientists, and features adaptable laboratory spaces and collaborative work areas. This opening is part of a broader $32 billion investment in the United States aimed at advancing research, development, and manufacturing through 2030.

Two additional projects are currently underway in Foster City: a Technical Development Center expected to open in 2027 and a biologics facility scheduled for completion in 2029. Gilead CEO Daniel O’Day stated that the new center reflects a long-term commitment to American innovation and will help scientists deliver breakthrough medicines faster.
