Gillian Anderson addresses ‘The Salt Path’ controversy and Sony distribution withdrawal
Actors Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs have addressed the controversy surrounding the film adaptation of the memoir ‘The Salt Path’. The film, which stars the pair as Raynor and Moth Winn, faced significant setbacks after an investigation by the UK’s Observer alleged that parts of the Winns’ life story were misrepresented, including claims regarding financial embezzlement and the nature of Moth Winn’s medical diagnosis.
Anderson described the situation as a “huge letdown” and a “betrayal,” noting that Sony withdrew its deal to distribute the film in the United States at the same time the scandal broke. She expressed interest in the level of due diligence performed prior to the production and noted that the Winns had previously cited an ongoing legal case as a reason for not discussing certain details.
Despite the loss of Sony distribution, the film, directed by Marianne Elliott, is scheduled for a North American release in the United States and Canada through Rialto Pictures later this month.
