Gillian Anderson and Rebecca Hall to star in thriller The Portrait

Actors Gillian Anderson and Rebecca Hall are set to star in the psychological thriller The Portrait, written and directed by Sara Colangelo. Based on the novel by Ilaria Bernardini, the film follows Valeria, an acclaimed writer played by Anderson, whose secret lover, a wealthy businessman named Martín, falls seriously ill.

To gain access to Martín during his final days, Valeria commissions his wife, an artist named Isla played by Hall, to paint her portrait. This arrangement brings the lover and the wife into close proximity within the family’s London townhouse, leading to a game of deception.

The project is produced by Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman Keren of Pie Films, alongside Francesca Cualbu of The Apartment. Production is scheduled to begin in the UK during the first quarter of 2027.
