Gillian Welch and David Rawlings announce official live album release
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings have announced the official release of Boots No. 3: The Hickory Show, scheduled for February 12, 2027, via Acony Records. The album features a performance recorded on September 27, 1997, at the Acoustic Stage in Hickory, North Carolina.
The recording, which has circulated as an unofficial bootleg for nearly three decades, captures the duo during a pivotal period between the release of Welch’s debut album, Revival, and her sophomore album, Hell Among The Yearlings. The performance was recorded by Bill Bost and David Rawlings in a 400-seat theater, showcasing the duo’s signature acoustic style.
Welch noted that the recording reflects the intensity and focus of their younger selves, while Rawlings highlighted the importance of the relaxed atmosphere that allowed for real-time musical exploration. Early tracks released from the album include “Tear My Stillhouse Down” and a cover of Townes Van Zandt’s “Pancho And Lefty.”
