Gillo Pontecorvo exhibition opens at Turin's National Cinema Museum

The National Cinema Museum in Turin has opened a major exhibition titled ‘Gillo Pontecorvo. Una battaglia dopo l’altra’ at the Mole Antonelliana. The exhibition, which runs until April 5, 2027, is based on a massive archive donated by the director's family and curated by his son, Simone, alongside Mauro Genovese.

The collection includes photographs, posters, documents, scripts, letters, and period filmmaking equipment. It highlights Pontecorvo's life as a partisan and his cinematic focus on social and political struggles, including the Shoah, anti-colonialism, and women's emancipation. Key works featured include ‘The Battle of Algiers’, which won the Golden Lion sixty years ago, and ‘Queimada’, starring Marlon Brando.

The archive also provides insight into his personal connections with significant 20th-century political and cultural figures, such as Enrico Berlinguer and Palmiro Togliatti.
