Gimcheon City Council returns overseas training budget for reform
The Gimcheon City Council has announced it will return its entire budget allocated for overseas training for members and staff. This decision serves as a self-reform measure following the council receiving the lowest possible integrity rating (Grade 5) from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission.
Council members agreed to forgo conventional overseas trips to focus on core legislative duties, including reviewing the 2027 major business reports and budget proposals. The returned funds will be processed through a supplementary budget. While most training funds are being returned, minimal budgets for essential overseas activities, such as participation in official international events, will be maintained.
Council Chairman Oh Se-gil stated that the council must prioritize examining municipal issues and reflecting citizens' voices rather than engaging in discretionary overseas travel. The council aims to use this period to scrutinize budget appropriateness and prevent wasteful spending to regain public trust.
