Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata beats Dynamo Makhachkala and draws with Zenit in Russia
Argentina's Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata travelled to Russia for a pre‑season tour, playing two friendly matches against local sides. The team opened the trip with a 3‑1 victory over Dynamo Makhachkala at the Spartak Zelenogorsk training centre, with goals from Enzo Martínez, Jeremías Merlo and Nicolás Barros Schelotto, while Mrezigue scored for the hosts.
A few days later Gimnasia faced Russian champions Zenit at the Gazprom Arena. The match ended 1‑1 after Aleksandr Sobolev put Zenit ahead and Agustín Auzmendi equalised for Gimnasia. Both games were noted for Gimnasia’s positive impression, the developmental value for players such as Ignacio Fernández, Nacho Miramón and Agustín Auzmendi, and the chance to gauge the squad ahead of the second half of the Argentine season.
