GIMP releases 3.2.8 update with non-destructive editing improvements
The development team for the open-source image editor GIMP has announced the availability of version 3.2.8. This maintenance update introduces significant enhancements to color management, user interface responsiveness, and non-destructive editing capabilities.
Key technical improvements include a stable public API to facilitate the migration of plugins and scripts from the 2.10 series, support for loading layers from Autodesk Sketchbook TIFF files, and 64-bit per pixel BMP support. The update also restores the ability to use the Offset tool as a non-destructive filter and introduces a “Merge Filters” checkbox to streamline the process.
Language support has been expanded with improved text tool functionality for right-to-left languages, utilizing the Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm. Platform-specific fixes address macOS permission requests via the NotificationCenter API and improve memory reporting on Windows. Additional refinements include faster preferences dialog loading, updated GEGL and babl elements, and a new logo and splash screen.
