Gimpo and Yangcheon-gu propose Seoul Subway Line 2 extension

Gimpo City and Seoul's Yangcheon-gu have signed a joint proposal to extend the Sinjeong branch of Seoul Subway Line 2 to Gimpo. The proposal aims to include this extension in the 5th Metropolitan Transport Implementation Plan (2026–2030).

The proposed route would extend from the current terminus at Kachisan Station through Sinwol Junction to Gimpo. The plan also includes the construction of a new Sinwol Junction Station and the relocation of the Sinjeong depot to Gimpo.

Local officials stated that the project is essential to resolve public transportation blind spots, particularly in Sinwol-dong, and to alleviate commuting congestion caused by the growing population in the western metropolitan area. The joint petition will be submitted to the Metropolitan Transport Commission.
