German court hears murder trial of 8‑year‑old Fabian, suspect Gina H. accused of killing for financial motive
Eight‑year‑old Fabian from Güstrow disappeared on 10 October 2025 and his burnt body was found in a pond near Klein Upahl. Prosecutors allege that his 30‑year‑old former step‑mother, Gina H., killed him with six knife stabs, set the body on fire and did so to eliminate a perceived obstacle to regaining a relationship – and financial support – from his father, Matthias R.
The case has been tried before the Landgericht Rostock since late April 2025. Evidence presented includes audio messages in which Gina H. complains about losing financial aid, messages showing jealousy and threats, and extensive phone‑data analysis of the victim, his father and acquaintances. Four policewomen testified, one breaking down in tears and describing the boy as “disposed of like trash”. The defendant has not spoken in court yet; her lawyer announced a planned statement for 24 August 2026. Media coverage has highlighted the emotional testimonies and the alleged financial motive behind the murder.
