Gina Hinojosa challenges Greg Abbott in 2026 Texas gubernatorial race

Democratic State Representative Gina Hinojosa is campaigning to unseat Republican incumbent Governor Greg Abbott in the November 3, 2026, Texas gubernatorial election. Hinojosa, a former civil and labor rights attorney from Brownsville, is running on a platform centered on public education, property tax reduction, and government accountability.

Her campaign seeks to appeal to Hispanic voters and conservative-leaning families by focusing on the cost of living and reducing government control. Hinojosa recently visited Texas State University to engage with students and voters as early voting begins. If successful, she would become the first Democratic governor of Texas since 1995.
